Shipping & Delivery

At Mini Dachshund Paws Homes, shipping is considered an option to ensure that our puppies find suitable homes, even if those homes are not within driving distance. We recognize the common concern about flying a puppy: Is it safe? We want to assure you that the safety and comfort of our puppies during transit is our utmost priority, and we would never consider air travel if it were not safe.

Before arranging any shipment, we conduct thorough inquiries into the reputation of the shipping company. When booking a flight for a puppy, we only use safe and approved airlines that have pet-safe programs complying with USDA guidelines. Importantly, our puppies do not travel in the cargo hold. Instead, they are transported in the passenger section of the plane where they receive continuous care from trained pet nannies. The puppies share the cabin air with the pilots, ensuring a comfortable and safe environment.

We understand that shipping a puppy alone may sound harsh; however, with years of experience, we have developed protocols to make the journey as comfortable as possible. We note that all puppies are well cared for throughout the transportation process. Air carriers are motivated to handle animals with care, as mishandling leads to potential lawsuits and customer dissatisfaction. To ensure proper feeding during the trip, we attach puppy food and feeding instructions to the crate and place frozen water inside, which gradually thaws to keep the puppy hydrated.

Typically, flights last between 4 to 6 hours. We meticulously track any potential delays or layovers and maintain exact knowledge of flight times and departures. This allows us to keep you informed about your puppy’s whereabouts during transit.

Your puppy will arrive on the same day it is sent, usually within a few hours. Inside the crate, we provide a comfortable nesting bed made of shredded newspapers, a pig’s ear chew (which puppies love), and a toy or sock carrying a familiar scent to help the puppy feel secure.

When booking flights, we always call ahead to ensure the most direct route, much like you would when booking travel for yourself. Historically, our puppies have consistently arrived safe and sound in their new homes.

Research and statistics support that flying a puppy on a 2-6 hour flight is preferable to driving over 4 hours or more in a non-air-conditioned vehicle. Additionally, professional pet transporters with extensive experience handle these flights, ensuring safe and comfortable journeys.

For customers residing within our state or those seeking a more affordable option, we also offer ground delivery. Ground shipping is a cost-effective and convenient alternative but requires more time for delivery. If timely delivery is your priority, flying is the best option. However, if you have the patience and wish to economize, ground delivery is a suitable choice. Rest assured, both shipping methods are safe and dependable, depending on the distance and your preferences.
